Offer to weavers remain unfulfilled

The Central and State governments have not been able to resolve the various problems faced by the weavers, said Shahnawaz Hussain former Textiles Minister.

Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy had promised that weavers would be provided jobs and the Rs 300 crore would be allotted in budget to Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Co-operative Society Ltd (APCO), he said.

The government should offer 20 percent discount for handloom for 120 days in a year, old age pension of Rs 250 be sanctioned to weavers and membership in cooperative societies, was demanded by him.
