Israel's textile and fashion industry recorded real growth in sales by 1-1.5 percent to $2.03 billion in 2005.
However, the industry also went through a sizable amount of dismissals. This job loss was caused by closing of 12 sewing workshops in which more than 1500 workers were working last year.
About 29700 textile workers lost their jobs since 1995 and the number has come down to 18700.
As if this were not enough, manufacturers predict dismissals of 1700 workers this year.
