Textile and clothing industry held a seminar to design new strategies to achieve export targets of $40 billion by 2010.
The seminar was organized under the aegis of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC).
With industry leaders and policy makers, experts in international trade and bank officials attended the seminar and discussed policies to strengthen industry's position in world market, said Chella K Srinivasan, Regional President of IACC.
The seminar also stressed on the challenges garment industry facing from its rivals China and Bangladesh, said Ranjith P Shah, President, Apparels and Handloom Exporters Association.
Shah also pointed out the need to deal with issues like labour laws, infrastructure and corruption at all levels in garment industry.
At present, Indian textile and garment exports are about $13 billion and the US is the main export destination.
