The dyeing unit owners of Tirupur are in trouble as knitwear exporters have yet to clear arrears amounting to several crores.

Investment for establishment of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP's) has proved costly and the clearance of arrears would help them.

Under High Court directions to control pollution about 11 CEPT's are being constructed and face financial constraints with many falling into severe debts, a dyeing unit owner said.

It is estimated that Rs 18 crore is required to set up a CETP for 30 dyeing units.

Bank's help has been asked for but a huge amount is required.

A dyeing unit owner said the CEPT can be set up if exporters clear the arrears.

The owners said they were under pressure to set up CEPT within a designated timeframe and bear financial strain.

There are approximately 500 dyeing units in Tirupur, he said.

The arrears have been pending since last six months.
