The government plans to streamline the monitoring of the flow of imported goods to contain the practice of trans-shipment, informed Trade Minister Marie Elka Pangestu.
Controls need to be tightened from exporting countries by restricting the issuing of certificates of origin for export of textile products and shrimp to 14 regions, she said.
Certificate of origin for footwear products is not required by importers, she said.
Industry Minister Fahmi Idris had earlier taken a serious view about indications of Chinese trans-shipment to Europe and the United States through Indonesia to avoid imposition of high import duty on its footwear products.
Indonesia was used as the third country by China to export textile products which resulted into sanctions being imposed by United States on Indonesia.
The US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit Jakarta, and the main discussion would be to enhance bilateral trade and investment areas, Marie said.
