The Textile Ministry has appointed a consultant to make an in depth study of the benefit of Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) and whether the scheme needs further extension beyond March 2007.

This evaluation to be undertaken by KSA Technopak is expected to be completed by late April or early May.

The study will identify problematic areas and suggest remedies for them.

The agency would study the impact of TUFS on textile industry, its role in boosting exports and the reason for not being able to take full advantage of the scheme by decentralised sector.

It will study the demand for its extension beyond 2007 by the industry, industry sources said.
