Beijing's commerce ministry representative, Chong Quan stated that China may strike back in opposition to the restrictions on textile and apparel products export by US administration.

Chong informed that the Chinese government reserves the right to take action against the re-imposed quota within the limitations of the World Trade Organisation [WTO].

The US commerce department announced safeguard measures for certain categories of products that includes cotton knit shirts, cotton trousers and cotton and man-made fibre underwear.

Safeguard measures would cap 7.5 % on the Chinese textile products and apparel imports to US markets, The restrictions may be put in place by the end of the month.

The 2001 WTO agreement with China, a category called as "safeguard measures," permits the members to curtail Chinese textile products if shows a substantial rise in imports that disrupt their local markets.
