The select committee on industrial relations of Uganda suggested in a report presented to the Parliament that the Government should declare statutory minimum wage of atleast sh75000.
Report explained that every East African country has a decided on the issue of minimum wage, except Uganda.
Committee Chairperson, Dora Byamukama, informed that the current minimum wage of sh6000 was fixed in 1984 over 20 years ago, and requires to be revised considering the socio-economic situation of the people.
The report also stressed on minimum 60 days maternity and five days paternity leave.
It also laid emphasis on more vigilant labour inspections and full operationalisation of the industrial court.
