Presidential candidate and strong contender Ollanta Humala, has assured major changes that will benefit every sector in his election agenda.
He promised dramatic changes in for the textile industry and said that if he gets elected then he would never approve of the Andean Free Trade Agreement with the US.
However, this is likely to result in a sharp decline in the textile and apparel exports to the US.
The US is a major trading partner of Peru as it consumes about 25 percent of the total US exports and accounts for over 40 percent of the imports.
Peru exported US $821.068 million worth of textiles and apparel to the US in 2005.
Peru's major exports to the US include copper cathodes, fresh asparagus, jewelry and parts, unwrought zinc and onions.
Humala also claims that his government will restrict the imports from the US.
Ollanta Humala and his brother Antauro are the foremost leaders of the 'Movimiento Etnocacerista', an ethnic nationalist group.
