Election Commission (EC) has restricted jute seeds distribution under Government program to conduct fair and unbiased elections.
This is the sowing season and industry is worried about the possible shortage of seed due to the decision made by commission.
Indian Jute Mills Association has estimated a shortfall of 14 to 15 lakh of fibre from regular production.
State agriculture department has also urged to commission to allow free distribution of jute seeds as it will beneficial to farmers and not create a particular favour.
