PM wants Clean Cotton Project to benefit cotton growers

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has asked Textile Ministry to associate Provincial Governments with Clean Cotton Project to create ownership for benefit of cotton growers.
He said this project can help facilitate value addition in textile sector leading to increased foreign exchange earnings for the country.
At a meeting presided over by Prime Minister at PM House, initiatives taken by Textile Ministry were discussed at length to increase textile exports together with improved productivity and competitiveness of textile industry.
Prime Minister reiterated Government's support to help textile industry improve its performance as sector accounts for 60 percent of country's exports and 38 percent of its manufacturing.
Substantial investment in textile industry during last five years has helped to upgrade and modernize it, he said.
Textile Minister, Mushtaq Ali Cheema, informed Prime Minister of problems faced by knitwear industry and proposed steps to overcome them.
The meeting was also attended by Dr Salman Shah, Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance, CBR Chairman Abdullah, Syed Masood Alam Rizvi, Secretary Textile Industry, and other senior officials.
