Wu also visited the rural areas in Shanghai probing ways to help the countryside catch up with the rapid development of Chinese cities.
Wu asked local officials to widen money-earning channels for peasants and seek ways to increase their income, and added that the countryside can only develop with peasants' pocket full.
He also praised local officials' efforts to provide medical care, education, and expand arable farmland.
Peasants' opinions must be considered before attempting to do things for them, instead of simply reforming for reform's sake.
Central Government plans substantial investment to develop the countryside which shall help rural life to change with improvement in peasants living condition, he said.
