Textile plant of Seneca is facing closure, resulting into causing to lose over 120 jobs for Oconee County.

The decision to close this plant was taken because it has a larger facility in Ringgold, Ga., that manufactures the same carpet backing and industrial fabrics for furniture and auto industry, Propex said.

Decision to close it was a strictly a business decision and not because of performance of plant or employees, said Nathaniel Barnes, Site Manager.

Some equipment and workers from Seneca plant will be sent to Georgia plant, company officials said.

Textile plant is scheduled to be closed by November and efforts to sell its 154-acre site and buildings are on.

Oconee County is facing its latest blow, after facing job losses of around 2,000 textile jobs over past several years.

Unemployment rate of county was 8.5 percent in March.
