Scheme success prompts Textile Min to seeks Rs1000cr under TUFS

Union Finance Ministry has been requested to allocate additional Rs1,000 crore under Textile Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) by Textile Ministry, informed senior official of Textile ministry.
Sudripta Roy, Joint Secretary, Union Textile Ministry said that budgeted Rs535 crore is not enough as there has been large number of applications and the scheme has evoked excellent response.
Roy added that till now, Rs192 crore have been invested in the scheme and another Rs230 crore worth projects are awaiting clearance.
To set up parks under Integrated Textile Parks, 50 applications have been lodged but so far, only 25 have been sanctioned.
Funds for nine parks have been approved and seven more are under active consideration expected to be given the 'go-ahead' by September.
