To raise textile and apparel production in Maharashtra, the State Government has proposed to set up Textile Parks.

This year, production of around 36 lakh cotton bales are expected and the State want to expand its predominence in apparel manufacturing sector.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said, "Textile business in the state is out of indebtedness. The entrepreneurs should add value to their trade by shifting to advanced production technology. Textile parks would be of immense help in this."

Proposed textile parks will include activities like end-to-end processes from spinning, weaving, garment processing to hosiery, embroidery and jet looms.

Financial institutions like SIDBI and investment firm IL&FS have shown keen interest to form public-private partnership model to finance such parks.
