US likely to purge textile & garment import quota

The US government is most likely to eliminate imports quota imposed on Vietnamese textile and garment despite protests from domestic textile and garment industry as well as several members of the Congress.

Deputy Trade Representative, Karan Bhatia, expressed his support to US-Vietnam Agreement on accession to WTO signed on May 31, 2006.

Bhatia believed that Washington will encourage the Congress to approve Permanent Normal Trade Relation status (PNTR) for Vietnam soon, although the US textile and garment industry is protesting this decision fearing surge in Vietnamese goods in the US markets.
