Nida Textiles of Dar es Salaam has been accused by East African Business Council (EABC) Chairman Arnold Kilewo for seeking $9 million worth tax exemption each year to improve industrialization and competitiveness.

Confederation of Tanzania Industries has opposed selective tax waivers like these and is backed by EABC, Kilewo stated.

Selective tax waivers will promote cheap imports and ultimately harm the domestic industry, it is believed. Besides, such waiver if granted, it would set bad example.

EABC also informed that such tax waivers will overlook partner states and cause uncertainty in private sector, apart from curtailing foreign investment, informed Kilewo.
