Extractive industries are a curse rather than blessings for sustainable development of developing countries.
However, employment is a derived factor and the challenge therefore is to revive the real productive sectors of the economy and creatively engage the unemployed in value-adding activities.
Government must intensify the current pace of the implementation of the ban on textiles through continuous seizures of contraband products and their destruction.
Re-activate the Presidential Committee on enforcement of the ban to include manufacturers, workers and employers association.
Government should consolidate efforts at curbing smuggling activities for effective results and introduce attractive incentives to the members of the Nigeria Custom Service to enable them to seize illegal textile imports.
