Sander textile project in Coega IDZ under storm
24 Jun '06
1 min read
Belgian Sander textiles project at the Coega industrial development zone is on doldrums and Coega is in search for potential new tenants.
Sander International had fallen out with its South African partners.
However, Coega is considering a patch up with Sander to revive the project.
The Sander project had hailed at its launch a year ago as the first tenant at Coega struggling to seek investors.
The Belgian company and its South African partners had signed a 25-year lease that boosted creating 1200 jobs in SA.
Legal representatives from Coega have visited Sander in Belgium to decide the matter.
The government project has been censured for being motivated by politics rather than by economics.
