The Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) joining hands with Businessmen led the initiative for closure of the industries for an uncertain period from June 22, as the trade unions failed to respond for dialogues.
If the closed textile industries do not re-open early the workers demands are not fulfilled the trade union representatives have warned of a stronger protest programme.
Earlier the trade unions had submitted their demand of remuneration as per the existing Labor Act and promotion of workers to permanent position.
Businessmen had deliberately closed the industries although the trade unions gave no threat of strikes.
A good number textile industries have now turned sick and solutions are not feasible without due consideration on it as nobody would wish to close the industries on which hundreds of million rupees had been invested, expressed an official of BCCI.
The trade unions representatives stated, the unilateral move of the businessmen affected 15,000 workers and their families.
