In order to oversee the execution of national textile park scheme, Government has created a project implementation committee headed by Textile Secretary D P Singh, who would monitor progress of integrated textile project park, Ministry of Textiles informed.

The Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) to improve infrastructure for high-tech units.

Of the nine parks approved this year, work on five parks has already been started in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, where empowered committee would ensure that formation of special purpose vehicle, identification of groups and arrangement of finances are done properly, stated a senior official from Ministry.

Land has been acquired for other four parks in Surat and Kutch. However, no work has been started even after six months even as other 11 park projects may be approved next month.

Centre will extend 40 percent cost of infrastructure as grant with a ceiling of Rs40 crore for each park. The investment of Rs200 crore towards machinery and Rs100 crore on infrastructure has been decided.

Each park is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for about 15,000 persons.
