More than 4,000 units consisting of spinning mills, pit looms, blankets and bed sheets, dye units, export-oriented units have been closed down by their owners in Panipat.

The lock out follows the workers protests which are on for the last one year over the contentious issue of labour laws implementation leaving more than 1,00,000 of them in dire straights.

The owners demanded the arrest of P P Kapoor, Convener of Indian Federation of Trade Unions in Haryana blaming him for the mess, during a meeting with Additional Labour Commissioner M S Yadav.

Yadav on his part told mill owners that Labour laws have to be implemented at any cost.

Blame game is on with sides blaming each other and the issue has taken political turn as well.

Kapoor, while addressing a rally of the workers put the entire blame on the owners since they had not implemented the labour laws as agreed earlier.

He alleged that a dissident minister was behind the lock out, trying to defame the Chief Minister.

On the other hand, Haryana Vyapar Mandal spokesman, Mr Roshan Lal Gupta blamed another senior minister of the cabinet for the stand off between the two parties.

With no immediate remedy in sight, political blame game is in full glory neglecting the plight of over 1,00,000 hand to mouth workers who have been rendered jobless and are looking deep down the barrel.
