PNTR to Vietnam threatens trade, feel Triad textile firms

Granting permanent normal trade relations to Vietnam would open the way for the country to enter the World Trade Organization offering it easier access to US markets offering added competition to the overstressed US textile industry.

Many Triad textile companies have complained that overseas competition, particularly from China, has already hurt them in recent years, forcing plant closures and job losses compelling some companies to hive off business completely.

However, other Triad companies have supported efforts to open up trade relations with China and other countries as manufacturing products in those countries has allowed them to lower prices and be more competitive.

However, unanimity is clearly missing in the US textile about granting Vietnam permanent normal trade relations.
