Dismantling quota regime a boom for exporters

Internationally renowned chain stores like Walmart, J.C. Penny, Ikea, Harrods, Target, Kohns are venturing India for assorted products such as kitchen linen, table linen, curtains and bedspreads.

Delivery consists of Stores with value-addition in an attractive manner, specific and distinctive packaging and willing to enter into a long-term business deal.

The Karur textile exporters are eager to supply made-ups to these internationally reputed chain stores having retail outlets in Europe and the United States.

Among the 650 textile export houses, more than 150 have become store suppliers last year and with the dismantling of quota regime, exporters at Karur are expecting a boom.

Along with rewards there are hiccups too, such as penalties are imposed on exporters even for small flaws such as pasting wrong stickers or for delay in transition and to convene numerous export and social compliances.

If the Government at the level of bilateral talks deals these inconveniences, many more export houses would twist into store suppliers.
