The US considers Vietnam as a powerful country in the region, contributing to maintaining peace and stability in Southeast Asia and highly appreciates Vietnam's role in promoting the initiative on ASEAN-US partnership.

Also the US expects to play a role in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region by improving relations with Vietnam.

Thus in the interest of both Vietnam and the US, the approval of the bill on permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) will be a step to fully normalize the two countries' ties.

Vietnam will receive investment from the US, and the two countries' trade will strongly develop with more Vietnamese goods exported to the US.

Growth in exports to the US will gradually improve the quality of products manufactured and in return will be receiving modern technology from the US.

The US will have another source of goods, from Vietnam and gain an additional market with more than 80 million people.
