Centre has announced development packages for industries including leather industry, but cottage footwear sector has been deprived of those packages, informed Virendra Son, President of Agra Footwear Cottage Units Federation.
Due to lack of importance given to this sector, many people have to close down their business.
Cottage footwear sector of Agra accounts for 60-70 percent of total domestic production of footwear, primarily run by family members.
This cottage industry has been facing lack of credit which ultimately affects their efficiency.
Cottage footwear sector has complained UP Government for not giving enough importance and has shown reluctance as Government has failed to take promotional measures like Leather Export and Marketing Corporation, Virendra Son stated.
While talking to Anwarul Haq, Member, Central Planning Commission, Virendra Son has asked for special package for cottage footwear industry.
