An investment by a local investment firm Shetland Development Trust (SDT) by taking a £100,000 shareholding in Jamieson's Spinning (Shetland) Ltd. has led to develop new markets and significantly extend sales of high quality knitting yarn.

Jamieson's Spinning already has a market for genuine Shetland knitting yarn in Japan and the US, but is now keen to also break into the Continental market.

Company is now exporting around 60 to 65 percent of yarn, a bit of knitwear and tweed to Europe.

By accessing the high quality end of the markets worldwide, and avoiding the mass markets in China and Turkey, the spinning mill targets a successful future.
