Labour demands representation in textile revival committee

Labour representatives, while appreciating the efforts to revive the ailing textile industry by raising N50 billion have petitioned the President that the committee set up for the purpose should have at least two members belonging to the labour sector.

The petition, routed through Minister of Finance and signed by various labour unions leaders have made a special request that the members should be picked from Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN).

Leaders have requested the government to lend the fund at a concessionary rate in order to replace the outdated machinery to make the units competitive.

They have emphasized that the inclusion of two labour representatives will ensure effective fund raising, monitoring and just utilization of the funds.
