Government has granted provisional patents for two plants sources 'Biscorata' and 'Nutgraff' which are natural dyes for cotton, wool and silk to Punjab Agriculture University (PAU).
It is the first time PAU sought for patent of any invention and they are hopeful to get permanent patent within six months from Patent Office, Delhi, informed Neelam Grewal, Head of Department of Clothing and Textiles, PAU.

Sources informed that these invented plant sources are cheaper and cut the commercial cost of dyeing of cotton as much as 70 percent.
Handloom and handicraft industry will be benefited more through these new plant sources.
