Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry is actively considering cotton fabrics including lungis, cotton yarns, textiles and dress materials, readymade garments, leather footwear, imitation jewellery etc. for inclusion in the 22-item list of tradable commodities.
This proposal came up for discussion when the Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu met the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jairam Ramesh at Udyog Bhavan, Rafi Marg for improvement of Indo-Myanmar Border Trade.
During the meeting, it was agreed to construct a composite check post at Moreh, which will provide facilities for immigration, local police including women wing, forest, postal and telecom, NDPS related department, banking, food testing lab, animal/plant quarantine, quality certification inspection agencies trade facilitation counter, truck parking facility under one roof.
The meeting also agreed in principle for setting up of Inland Container Depot (ICD) from Guwahati to Moreh in addition to the International Trade Centre for Border Trade at Imphal.
