Govt launches RBHs to link rural & urban India

Over 100 companies have shown their interest in setting up Rural Business Hubs (RBHs); 50 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) have been signed by companies to set up Rural Business Hubs (RBHs), informed Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar.

Almost 22 companies have submitted expression of interest (EOIs) as RBHs is an innovative concept started by Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Through RBHs, Government desires to connect rural and urban sector to make optimum use of locally available resources and manufactured goods.

Government has allotted Rs2,000 crore in Swarna Jayanti Sampoorna Yojna, which is likely to be associated with women's self help groups, part of RBHs.

Rs3,750 crore has been allocated to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj for the development of 280 districts through the Backward Region Plant Fund.

For the development of handicrafts and leather products Rs200 crore has been granted under India Brand Equity Fund.

To boost exports and generate more foreign revenue, involvement of villages and towns are must, informed Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh.

Encouragement of RBHs means generating more employment opportunities as it is organized plan to develop rural sector, Jairam Ramesh stated.

If implementation of RBHs plan is done successfully, it is expected to generate 37 million jobs.

Government focuses on handlooms, handicrafts, agriculture & horticulture leather, gems & jewellery and minor forest produce to generate large scale employment.
