Government's move to limit the import of Chinese clothing and textile imports has been welcome by National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa), which reported that it would help the local manufacturers by generating 55,000 jobs.
Hlangani, the spokesperson for the union said that it would help the clothing and textile industries to resurrect themselves from the brink of collapse.
Numsa's reaction follows the statement issued by South African Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (Sactwu) which also hailed the move terming it as a positive step.
Sactwu informed that in the last four years, Chinese invasion had caused a loss of around 67,000 jobs in the local fashion manufacturing industry.
