Commerce Ministry's Trade Competition Board recently issued draft guidelines supervising the local retail business.
Thai Retailers Association (TRA) has claimed it as biased and unfair which was planned to take effect this month.
TRA has sought its revision as the draft favors the suppliers and to ensure fair treatment, the government ought to give all parties, the suppliers, retailers and consumers, a chance to take part in it.
In addition to being fair to all stakeholders, the new guidelines should be in the best interest of consumers and the public.
Retailers generally negotiated with their suppliers to get the best prices and passed on the savings to consumers.
The new draft will shed the bargaining power with the suppliers that mean retailers cannot pass on any benefits to the consumers.
The draft would discourage the suppliers from improving their efficiencies and offering different or innovative products at good prices, which limited consumers' choices.
New guidelines should be practical and take into consideration the needs and requirements of consumers.
