Tamil Nadu advocates extension of textile schemes

Tamil Nadu Government has requested Centre to carry on with the Technology Upgradation Scheme (TUF) and Integrated Textile Park Scheme at least for next Five Year Plan to encourage investment in textile industry.

N K K P Raja, Handloom and Textiles Industry Minister informed that the extension had been requested because the two schemes had encouraged businessmen to invest in large volume helping the swift growth of sector.

He further demanded increase in the ceiling limit from one crore to three crore and allotting 10 more integrated parks in Tamil Nadu. He expected that setting up of hi-tech weaving, apparel and processing parks in Tamil Nadu will see an investment of Rs3,000 crore, generating employment for around 34,000 people.

Central Government had already given its nod for setting up integrated textile parks at Erode, Kumarapalayam and Chengampalli.

On the occasion, Minister gave away best export awards to 15 exporters and best weaver awards to 57 handloom weavers. Awards included cash prize and a certificate of merit.
