Technology mission will be extended for threee more years as it has proved very advantageous for the growth of cotton and textile industry, Union Textile Minister Shankersinh Vaghela stated.

He announced this extension of the scheme at a Seminar 'Bountiful Cotton Harvests: Trade opportunities for Gujarat Ginners'.

Vaghela said that cotton technology mission has been proving useful for people of Gujarat and extension of this policy was essential to take domestic textile industry on global stage.

Cotton technology mission has been divided in four parts; two are handled by Agriculture Ministry and two by Textile Ministry.

Vaghela also insisted ginning factories to give more emphasize on quality as India is not able to compete with China in terms of mass production but the quality is an area where country can compete and survive.

Vaghela also suggested that Ahmedabad Textile Mills Asociation start professional courses to train skilled manpower to supplement the industry as there will be tremendous requirement arising from the sector in the coming years.

He was of the opinion that NIFT and other institutes focussed only on the designing aspect of the industry but there was none to cater to the sector apart from traditional college and ITI professionals.
