Government has decided to levy anti-dumping duties of 204.1 percent on Chinese towel imports that are adversely affecting the domestic industry.

This tariff will be valid to all towel imports from June 1, 2006 to May 31, 2011.

Several inquiries prove that the Chinese traders have dishonored anti-dumping regulation and strict measures were required to protect local manufacturers and consumers.

Besides, Ministry of Finance (MOF) assured that this tax would not harm the country's economic growth.

However, statistics reveal that from June-August 2006 period towel imports from China declined 13 percent with around 23 percent drop in the earnings as compared to the same period last year.

Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) promised financial aid for the local firms to encourage them to develop better quality products.

IDB also informed that while imports from China were declining, that from Vietnam are steadily expanding.
