With the approval of 14 new Special Economic Zones (SEZs) the total zones will reach upto 164.

Board of Approvals (BOA) under the leadership of Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath authorized the proposed 14 SEZ, yesterday.

Though it was agreed to restrict the number of SEZ at 150, Union granted permission for 14 new projects that also include the vast SEZ sponsored by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd covering 2086 hectare at Nagpur.

Beides, the Commerce Ministry has put in place strict land use laws for SEZ developers, which leaves very little scope for misuse.
