India will soon launch in Myanmar a US $103 million Sittwe / Kaladan project through RITES that would put up with enormous strategic and economic significance to the northeastern states.
During the Tenth Plan (2002-2007), the allocation for the BADP to eight North Eastern States is Rs407 crores.
At the end of the project, Manipur will be able to produce 1000 tones of bilvoltine silk per year.
The Manipur government was assured of all assistance by the Minister to market the Manipuri silk not only in the rest of India but even to South East Asia.
