Commerce and Water Resources Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has invited everyone concerned to boost trade between Bangladesh and Iran, stressing the need to take steps for trade expansion after reviewing related matters.

For this, he asked the envoy to increase visits by trade delegations to both countries and to find out new avenues of trade in private and public sectors.

Bangladesh's major export goods to Iran include jute and jute products, chemicals, knitwear and woven garments, while Iran's exports to Bangladesh includes minerals, chemicals, textiles, base metals and machinery.

In 2004-05, Bangladesh's export turnover to Iran was $48.73 million and import turnover was $23.41 million.

Between these two countries, a five year term trade agreement was signed in 2005 and a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) has been signed in 2006.
