Govt promises incentives for garment & textile industry

Under the proposed National Textile Strategy, Government has assured garment manufacturers and exporters of providing incentives in power tariff to garment and textile industry.
During a meeting between garment manufacturers and exporters and Government officials, many proposals came up concerning the production cost and market access for Pakistani goods in European markets.
Representatives from polyester fibre and woven textile sector also held meeting with the sub-committee where they also put up their proposals even though textile and garment sector remain the focus of the Government.
During July-August period, earning from textile products has dropped to $1.625 billion, a decrease of 7.10 percent compared to same period previous year.
Meetings were being held by sub-committee with different sections of industry to understand the problems being faced by domestic producers facing fierce competition from Bangladesh and China.
The textile strategy includes production target of 20.7 billion bales of cotton by 2015, producing standard and clean cotton, technological up-gradation and developing matching infrastructure.
