Committee advocates subsidies on gas, electricity in textile sector

Standing Committee of National Assembly on Textile Industry has asked Government to provide subsidies on gas and electricity to textile sector in order to lessen the burden of the industry and to make it competitive in international market.
The Committee also deliberated the drop in textile exports after the withdrawal of quota system. The committee also discussed the reasons behind the decline in textile export.
Committee was worried regarding the slump in textile exports and the issues it was confronted with because of WTO. It also pondered over corrective measures to save the industry.
