North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has come under severe criticism from Mexican people who have alleged that it has taken away their livelihood.
There is no doubt that NAFTA is not perfect in itself but when it came into force on January, 01, 1994, the exports had seen a boom. Investment opportunities had grown manifold and there was shortage of labour as well.
If NAFTA is removed, American tariffs on Mexican agricultural products and textiles would be so much that it would become impossible to compete in US market.
