Number of politicians and President Bush received letters from ten textile and apparel groups for approval of trade agreements in Peru and Columbia.
In letters the groups requested Congress to enact trade agreement during “lame duck” session before Democrats take control of the Congress.
Textile and apparel sector is one of the largest manufacturing and wholesale employers in the United States. These jobs depend upon exports which primarily function because of duty-free access for textile and apparel products.
Letter also covered topics like US/Peru Trade Promotion Agreement and the US/Columbia Trade Promotion Agreement as long-term solutions.
