At the India Economic Summit, Revenue Secretary K M Chandrasekhar informed that Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) is preparing a policy note on a special package being formulated for Northeast states.
He said tax incentives to encourage infrastructure development and investment in these states will be given in the package. He added that DIPP has selected a leading consultant to prepare an analysis on this.
Since the previous one will end this year, the new policy note is being prepared. Previous package, named 'New Industrial Policy' and initiated in 1996, allowed relaxation of rules as part of the Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Yojana. It also gave annual incentives and converted growth centers of the region into a total tax free zone.
