Textile industry chasing Indian machinery manufacturers

Lack of response from Indian industry is evident as local manufacturers approach authorities for seeking machinery imports which have been permitted by Government.

Leading manufacturers blame the Government decision for its inopportune timing. Yet, demand of imported machinery in India is on the rise even as its own textile sector is embarking on massive expansion programme.

It is learnt that All Pakistan Textile Mills Association's (APTMA) members are in negotiations with Indian textile machinery manufacturers for better deals.

Sources say that Indian textile machineries are competitive in price and delivery and is more convenient for the local industry to get easier access and quicker deliveries compared to other European countries.

Meanwhile last month, Pakistan included several items in positive import list from India which gone up to 1,841 from 1,074 items.

With Indian textile industry being supported by Textile Upgradation Fund (TUF) for expansion of local sector and funds disbursal reaching INR36 trillion mark meant for upgradation and modernization of its domestic industry, Indian machinery manufacturers are facing overflowing order books.

Most of them are saddled with bulk orders from domestic manufacturing units forcing them to turn down or reject even lucrative export orders due to lack of manufacturing capacities and inability to execute deliveries in time.

This indeed has added to the woes of Pakistan's textile indistry that is seeking to expand capacities to meet overseas orders coming in a steady flow.
