NCRC & NCGA to spare efforts in promoting local cotton industry

In order to prevent the improper practices of certain cotton farmers in Nigeria, National Cotton Revival Committee (NCRC) and National Cotton Growers Association (NCGA) have joined hands.

Sokoto Deputy Governor Alhaji Sadiq Sanyinna, represented by Commissioner for Agriculture, has noted illegal activities like wetting cotton and mixing pebbles and stones into it.

For the purpose of motivating more farmers to resort to cotton growing, steps will be taken to make cotton consumers depend on local production instead of imported crop.

Owing to factors like unfavourable weather, delay in planting, seed selling by farmers, imports, misuse of insecticides and adulterated chemical products, local cotton production has dropped steadily.

Other reasons that hinder production are absence of access to credit, high interest rates, contamination of products, gazetted markets and lack of grading. To find ways of solving these problems, Cotton Development Committee has been established with co-operation from cotton producing states.
