Mtiti Fakudze, Minister for Agriculture and Co-operatives, has been requested to revive the country's cotton sector fortunes by reducing cotton lint rates for farmers.
This was suggested by Portfolio Committee analyzing performance of the Ministry, recently.
Committee also advised the ministry to use a grant of E3 million provided to it for development and construction of new offices and labs. It also asked the ministry to apply for budget extension which will facilitate setting up infrastructure.
Earlier, Members of Parliament had questioned Mtiti about the ministry's performance in the last quarter of 2006, which prompted establishing of a committee that gave these suggestions. They wanted details about steps being taken by the ministry to restore cotton sector and utilization of budgets planned for the sector.
