PM Aziz declares complete backing for textile sector

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz assured that the Government will take every necessary measure to enhance the functioning of textile industry, so as to boost its performance and help it to take maximum advantage of the quota-free world.
Textile industry accounts for more than 65 percent of the country's exports and eight percent of the GDP and offers almost 40 percent of the jobs.
Authorities have already started evaluating this sector to determine the weaknesses that need to be strengthened.
Superior cotton seeds have been introduced to improve the quality and quantity of the output.
PM informed that steps had been taken to upgrade skills of the labourers, back research and technology, importing advanced machineries as well as creating higher and more placements for women.
He also stressed the importance of infrastructure development and foreign investments, and urged international players to come forward.
