Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with African Cotton and Textiles Industries Federation (Actif) for improving mutual co-operation on trade matters regarding textile and cotton industry of the region.

MoU was signed by Erastus Mwencha, Secretary General, Comesa and Jaswinder Bedi, Chairman, Actif at a seminar organized on November 29, 2006 by Kenya Association of Manufacturers in Nairobi.

During the seminar, questions were raised on how country's business could be affected by upcoming Comesa Customs Union to be active from December 2008.

Both associations must have better co-operation on issues promoting free textile-cotton trade throughout Africa by canceling non-tariff trade barriers, as per the MoU.

Actif is a Nairobi based non-profit organization, which works for promoting interests of textile and garment industries in Africa.
