Government is expected to implement quotas on Chinese textile imports from today. Since 2002 clothing imports soared almost 480 percent, resulting unemployment for over 63000 workers.
Quotas will be operational on 31 textile and garment categories until the December 2008.
Certain goods may only be imported from the People's Republic with Special Permit Certificates, issued by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
This step will boost domestic production creating more than 55000 placements.
However, several retailers believe these restrictions will lead to revenue loss and hike clothing prices.
